As part of its push to cement its standing in the era of agentic artificial intelligence, Salesforce has added prominent tech veterans from Cisco and Nvidia to its board of directors, underlining its ambitions in the field.

Introduction: A strategic boost for technical expertise

Salesforce has added two new faces to its board of directors as the enterprise software company looks to bolster its technical expertise amid a push into agentic artificial intelligence. The company announced in a press release on Wednesday that Amy Chang, a former executive at Cisco and Google, and David B. Kirk, a former engineer at Nvidia, will join the board with immediate effect.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Marc Benioff said: “Their exceptional track record of driving innovation and deep technical expertise will be invaluable as we unlock the full potential of human-AI collaboration and digital labor.”

Who are the two new members?

Amy Chang: She led collaboration business at Cisco from 2018 to 2021 after the company acquired her business intelligence startup, Accompany. She currently serves on the boards of directors of The Walt Disney Company and Procter & Gamble, giving her a broad perspective on how technology is applied at massive consumer corporations.

David B. Kirk: He is a former chief scientist at Nvidia and has invented nearly 100 patented technologies in computer graphics, hardware, and software. He is now a partner at venture capital firm DigitalDx Ventures, which focuses on healthcare and artificial intelligence. His deep expertise in computing infrastructure will be crucial in guiding Salesforce’s investments in this area.

Focus on Agentic AI

Benioff framed the additions of Chang and Kirk as part of the company’s efforts to build and deploy Agentforce, an agentic AI solution that integrates with existing Salesforce software. Agentic AI represents the next generation of artificial intelligence, where systems do not merely respond to prompts, but can take proactive actions, plan, and execute complex multi-step tasks on behalf of the user. For instance, an AI-powered sales agent can automatically identify potential leads, send personalized emails, and schedule follow-up meetings without human intervention.

Last month, the company reached an agreement to acquire cloud data firm Informatica in an $8 billion deal with the same objectives. These moves aim to transform Salesforce from a mere customer relationship management (CRM) software provider into an integrated intelligence platform capable of automating large portions of sales, marketing, and customer service operations.

Market reaction

Despite these bold moves, Salesforce’s AI plan has failed to excite investors in recent months, with its shares down 19% so far in 2025. Some Wall Street analysts have expressed concerns over the costly Informatica deal, saying that Salesforce has a mixed track record in large acquisitions. However, most analysts remain optimistic about the company, with 44 out of 58 analysts surveyed by FactSet rating the stock as a buy or overweight.

Conclusion: Preparing for the future

The appointments of Chang and Kirk represent a clear strategic step by Salesforce to signal to the market that it is serious about artificial intelligence. By bringing in expertise from tech giants like Cisco and Nvidia, the company not only gains valuable technical knowledge, but also increases its credibility in this highly competitive space. Salesforce’s success in the era of agentic AI will depend on its ability to seamlessly integrate these new technologies into its products and prove their tangible value to customers.
