The AI for Good Global Summit 2025 brings together governments, tech leaders, academics, civil society, and youth to explore how to guide artificial intelligence technologies toward sustainable development goals and away from the growing risks of inequality, misinformation, and environmental strain.

Introduction

In an era witnessing rapid development in artificial intelligence technologies, Geneva is hosting the AI for Good Global Summit 2025, representing an important meeting point between world leaders and technology experts. This summit aims to explore optimal ways to steer the power of artificial intelligence toward achieving sustainable development goals.

The AI Generation

“We are the AI generation,” said Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, in a keynote address. However, being part of this generation means more than just using these technologies.

“This means contributing to efforts to develop society-wide skills, from early education to lifelong learning,” Bogdan-Martin added. This statement reflects the urgent need to prepare societies to cope with the transformations imposed by artificial intelligence.

Warnings over AI risks

Bogdan-Martin warned against the growing risks of deploying artificial intelligence without sufficient public understanding or proper political oversight. “The biggest risk we face is not AI eliminating the human race. It is the race to embed AI everywhere, without sufficient understanding of what that means for people and our planet.”

These statements reflect a growing sense of urgency among policymakers and tech experts as new artificial intelligence systems capable of reasoning and independent action emerge at unprecedented speeds.

Expert predictions

With some experts predicting artificial intelligence will reach human-level capabilities within the next three years, concerns surrounding safety, bias, energy consumption, and regulatory capacity are intensifying. These challenges require wide-scale international cooperation.

Summit exhibitions

The summit agenda reflects these tensions through more than 20,000 square meters of exhibition space at the Palexpo in Geneva, which now hosts over 200 demonstrations, including a flying car, a fish-inspired water quality monitor, brain-computer interfaces, and AI-powered disaster response tools.

Focus on health

Health is a prominent theme this year. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization will lead a session titled “Empowering AI for Health Innovation and Access,” bringing together tech experts, regulators, clinicians, and humanitarian leaders to discuss how artificial intelligence can improve healthcare delivery, particularly in resource-constrained settings.

Governance Day

One of the highlights will be AI Governance Day on Thursday, where national regulators and international organizations will address the gap in global oversight. An ITU survey found that 85% of countries lack an artificial intelligence policy or strategy, raising concerns about uneven development and widening digital divides.

Conclusion

Concluding her keynote address, Bogdan-Martin reminded participants that the future of artificial intelligence is a shared responsibility. “We never stop putting artificial intelligence at the service of all people and our planet,” she said. This message encapsulates the core objective of the summit: ensuring that artificial intelligence technologies serve as a positive force for all of humanity.
