U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed criticism from his close ally Elon Musk regarding the $500 billion artificial intelligence “Stargate” project, which was announced at the White House.
Trump announced a joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle named “Stargate,” aimed at building data centers and creating more than 100,000 jobs in the United States.
The announcement was attended by Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank; Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; and Larry Ellison, Chairman of Oracle, alongside Trump at the White House.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the world’s richest person, who has become a close adviser to Trump, is a rival of Sam Altman and is engaged in an ongoing legal dispute with OpenAI.
In a post on the platform X, Musk expressed doubts about the group’s ability to raise the necessary funding for the project, stating: “They actually don’t have the money. SoftBank hasn’t even secured $10 billion. I know that from reliable sources.”
When asked about Musk’s criticism during a White House press conference, Trump said: “It doesn’t bother me. He hates one of the people involved in the deal.” He added, “The people involved in the deal are very smart, but Elon has a hatred toward someone. And I also have certain hatreds for certain people.”
Regarding Musk’s claims about a lack of funding, Trump said: “I don’t know if they have the money, but they are funding the project themselves. The government is not paying anything. They are very rich, so I hope they succeed.”
“Stargate” project exclusive to OpenAI
According to a report published by the Financial Times, the “Stargate” project—the joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle—will build advanced AI data centers in the United States and will be exclusively dedicated to serving OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
This move will enable the project to play a pivotal role in supporting OpenAI’s artificial intelligence technologies, strengthening its position in the global advanced technology market.
