This innovation targets vital facilities and critical infrastructure that daily receive hundreds of contractors, suppliers, and guests, such as hospitals, major medical centers, cloud data centers, administrative buildings, multinational corporations, and logistics and supply chain facilities. Integrated technologies and encrypted document reading

The smart kiosk combines three highly advanced technical components working in complete harmony. It includes the HID® FARGO® Connect / HID Integrale / HID ATOM advanced document reader (HID ATOM) and the HID U.R.U. live facial recognition unit, both connected to the CloudGate visitor management cloud system developed by Soloinsight. Meanwhile, CTS manufactures and assembles the physical housing of the kiosk according to top-tier engineering specifications.

The integrated document reader features the ability to access deep data stored inside electronic chips and encrypted codes in biometric passports, official driver’s licenses, and digital and national identity cards, going beyond simple surface imaging of the document. The system also tests invisible security and watermarks to thoroughly ensure the document is free of any counterfeiting or alteration. At the same time, the smart camera captures a live image of the visitor’s face and instantly compares it with the original digital image extracted from the chip, categorically rejecting any fraudulent attempts utilizing printed photographs or mobile phone screens.

Addressing security vulnerabilities at reception desks

This innovative solution addresses a common security vulnerability plaguing traditional reception systems, which often rely on paper logbooks where visitors manually record their data, or simple tablets where fictitious names can easily be entered without the receptionist having an effective means to verify document authenticity. This inaccurate registration creates serious risks, especially in facilities subject to strict regulatory oversight, leading to unauthorized personnel entering, a lack of reliable tracking logs during incidents, and management’s inability to provide precise digital evidence proving the identity of those present in the building and their entry times.

The new kiosk transforms visitor management from a weak routine procedure into an integrated security checkpoint, eliminating the need for visitors to move between multiple devices or stand in long waiting lines. This delivers a seamless and fast experience taking only seconds while maintaining the highest corporate security standards.

Pre-registration and self-verification steps

The system workflow begins before the visitor arrives at the facility, as the host employee enters their guest’s details and visit specifics via the CloudGate platform. The system then automatically sends an email to the visitor containing an encrypted QR code. When the visitor arrives at the facility entrance, they scan the code at the kiosk screen, swipe their identification document on the smart reader, and the camera matches the face within fractions of a second.

Once matching is complete and identity validity is confirmed against the visit records, the kiosk instantly prints the entry pass, and the host receives an immediate notification of their guest’s arrival. The system also offers the option to grant automated self-entry privileges for regular and trusted visitors without needing to wait for host approval, in accordance with the approved security policies of the facility.

Regulatory compliance and system integration

The CloudGate platform features an encrypted, tamper-evident digital logbook that records the precise details of entry and exit movements, enabling compliance requirements for more than 40 international data protection and information security standards and laws. Foremost among these are the US Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ISO 27001 standards, and SOC 2 Type II certifications.

The kiosk is also designed to integrate seamlessly with existing smart door infrastructures without requiring replacement, as it is compatible with over thirty different access control systems and HID Signo readers, in addition to linking with more than 150 enterprise systems including human resources departments, IT systems, and security event monitoring platforms.
