Relaunching the smart home strategy via the Apple Home collection
Apple officially launched the Apple Home Collection, an integrated lineup of indoor and outdoor cameras, smart thermostats, temperature sensors, a video doorbell, and a smart door lock. Apple designed these products in close collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, allowing them to be set up with just a single tap on an iPhone and operate entirely through the Home app, according to an Apple statement. The collection was announced on October 13, with all products scheduled to begin shipping this December, followed by additional accessories in early 2027. The announcement accompanied the Home View display, Apple’s first smart display, the second-generation HomePod mini 2, and the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. Wired magazine described the launch as a comprehensive reboot of Apple’s smart home strategy, while Wirecutter noted that Apple chose to work with established manufacturers rather than building the accessories itself.
Surveillance cameras and smart locks from LG
LG is manufacturing four cameras in the collection: a video doorbell, a floodlight camera, an outdoor camera, and an indoor camera. Each camera records video in resolutions up to 2.5K, automatically recognizes faces, pets, vehicles, and delivered packages, and retains a 10-day event history in iCloud Plus without requiring a separate camera subscription, according to Apple. LG’s smart lock uses ultra-wideband technology to automatically unlock the door as soon as a user carrying an iPhone or Apple Watch approaches it. U.S. prices start at $199.95 for the indoor camera, $249.95 for the doorbell, and $349.95 for the smart lock, and Apple stores will also offer paid professional installation services through ADT. “By working closely with Apple, we have collectively created a more connected, intuitive, and convenient home experience for our customers,” said Keyheon Jung, executive vice president at LG Electronics.
Smart thermostat and advanced power mount with Schneider Electric
On October 27, Schneider Electric announced that it co-developed a smart thermostat and a special power mount known as Power Mount with Apple, to be sold under its Schneider Home residential brand, according to HVIC magazine. The power mount was specifically designed for the wall-mounted Home View display and comes in three versions: a USB-C wall connector, an AC corded mount, and a corded mount operating via Power over Ethernet. The thermostat pairs via near-field communication (NFC), supports the Matter and Thread standards, and works with an optional room sensor.

In Canada, the thermostat and sensor will go on sale at Apple stores early next year, while two versions of the power mounts arrive at retailers on November 13. The Schneider Home smart thermostat and LG smart thermostat both start at $199.95 in the U.S., and both can shift heating and cooling operations to cleaner, cheaper energy periods for users enrolled in compatible utility plans. “Collaborating with Apple brings together smart energy management, an exceptional user experience, and seamless home operation with the Apple Home View display to make energy consumption effortless,” said Olivier Blum, CEO of Schneider Electric.
