Introduction
Glean, a startup specializing in generative AI enterprise search, announced on Tuesday that it has secured $150 million in a Series F funding round, boosting its valuation from investors by billions of dollars in less than a year to reach $7.2 billion.
Exceptional growth in record time
The company’s previous funding in September 2024 valued Glean at $4.6 billion, meaning its value has grown by more than 50% in just a few months. This accelerated growth reflects the intense demand for artificial intelligence solutions in the business environment.
Glean was also included in the CNBC Disruptor 50 list for 2025 for the second consecutive year, reaffirming its position as a leader in smart search technologies.
Impressive financial figures
Glean reported that its annual recurring revenue exceeded $100 million in the past fiscal year, which ended on January 31, 2025, achieved in less than three years since its launch by a founding team including experts from Google, Meta, and Dropbox.
Arvind Jain, co-founder and CEO of Glean, said in a statement announcing the deal: “We are building the platform that weaves AI into the fabric of daily work, connecting people to knowledge, automating tasks, and enabling smarter decision-making across the enterprise.”
Revolutionary technologies in enterprise search
In early 2025, Glean launched its agentic AI, “Glean Agents,” which the company says is on track to power one billion agentic actions by the end of the year. This technology represents a qualitative shift in how employees interact with data and information within their organizations.
The company’s core product is an AI-powered enterprise search platform that integrates with a wide range of workplace applications such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, and Salesforce. Glean uses natural language understanding and machine learning to build a custom knowledge graph for each user, improving enterprise search results and content generation capabilities while automating individual workflows and enterprise processes.
Expansion into new markets
While Glean initially focused on tech industry clients, the company has expanded to include financial services, retail, and manufacturing sectors. Jain told CNBC’s “TechCheck” anchor Deirdre Bosa that the capital will allow Glean to double the size of its R&D and sales teams as it expands further into the large enterprise market and international markets.
Understanding the needs of large enterprises
Jain noted that many large organizations across economic sectors view the generative AI boom with a mix of anxiety and excitement. He told CNBC: “Large enterprises are more worried about this. They do not want to be left behind. The most important thing I hear from companies is that they are trying to make sure their workforce becomes AI-first.”
He added: “You have to remember that models like ChatGPT know nothing about your company’s internal data. We are able to use that context and combine it with the power of the models to solve real business problems for you.”
Challenges and competition
While Glean has experienced massive growth in recent years, it will continue to face challenges in a competitive market that includes Microsoft 365 Copilot, Amazon Q Business, and ChatGPT Enterprise, alongside offerings from other innovative companies like Perplexity and Writer.
Jain said that in some cases, his technology is not in competition with, but rather complements, large language models being developed for enterprises, such as Claude from fellow innovator Anthropic.
However, competition is intensifying from all directions and overlapping. “Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, they all want to enter this space that we started,” Jain said. “We have a lead. We have deep enterprise technology that we have built over these years… We have to keep innovating. And the good thing for Glean is that we are not building a product that will become a commodity.”
Future and aspirations
Wellington Management led the fundraising round, with participation from existing investors Capital One Ventures, Altimeter, Citi, Coatue, DST Global, General Catalyst, ICONIQ Growth, IVP, Kleiner Perkins, Latitude Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sapphire Ventures, and Sequoia Capital. New investors joining include Khosla Ventures, Bicycle Capital, Geodesic, and Arrowroot Capital.
The Palo Alto-headquartered company currently plans to open a new office in San Francisco soon to support its continued growth.
Conclusion
Glean’s success story is a shining example of the immense potential of artificial intelligence applications in the business environment. As it continues its rapid growth and expansion into new markets, the company underscores the importance of specialized solutions in the age of artificial intelligence.
